The University Star is a multi-platform student-run campus media outlet that prints a newspaper once a week, runs a digital news website 24 hours a day, and serves a growing campus community of more than 38,000 students in the greater San Marcos area. Aside from the traditional newsroom, The Star also maintains a fully equipped production studio for video and podcast creation.

As with many student-run organizations on campus, COVID-19 has taken a toll on The Star's funding and support. We made the difficult decision to not print a physical paper during the summer and fall semesters, in order to put our newsroom staff safety at the forefront. However, a significant portion of our funds come from the sale of advertising in our printed paper.
